A delegation from Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD), Senegal, visited Isfahan University of Technology (IUT). This delegation, headed by Prof. Thioub Ibrahima, President of UCAD, visited IUT during their trip to Isfahan in August 8, 2016.

During their visit, the UCAD delegation members had a meeting with Dr. Modarres Hashemi, President of IUT and other IUT officials and faculty members and had some discussions about the possible fields of collaboration between two universities.

Dr. Modarres Hashemi, during his short speech, welcomed the Senegalese guests and outlined the leading position of Isfahan University of Technology among the Iranian Universities. He expressed his hope that this meeting could pave the way for mutual cooperation between two universities.

After Dr. Modarres Hashemi, Prof. Mahboobi Soofiani, Director of IUT International and Scientific Cooperation Office, had a short presentation about the capabilities and potentials of IUT.

After Prof. Mahboobi’s presentation, Prof. Ibrahima, had a speech and thanked the hospitality of the IUT authorities. He explained about the educational system in Senegal. As Prof. Ibrahima said, they had a major structural reform in their educational system and are trying to encourage the higher education applicants to study in engineering fields specially in the field of agricultural engineering and in this regard, UCAD  tends to develop and expand its academic disciplines and activities in this field.

“Since Isfahan University of Technology is one of the strongest and oldest Iranian Universities in the field of agricultural engineering, we would like to have a tight collaboration with this university for expanding our academic activities in the field of agriculture.”, Said Prof. Ibrahima.

After Prof. Ibrahima’s speech, other UCAD delegation members and IUT authorities talked about the other possible fields of collaborations like Oil and Gas and Petro chemistry, Mining and Mechanical Engineering.

At the end of the Session, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by two universities presidents and after that the UCAD delegation visited several IUT departments such as College of Agriculture and Department of Mechanical Engineering.

After the visit, the UCAD delegation members attended a formal luncheon hosted by Isfahan University of Technology.

It is to mention that Cheikh Anta Diop University (French: Université Cheikh Anta Diop or UCAD), also known as the University of Dakar, is the largest university in Senegal and one of the important and large universities in the western Africa and currently more than 100,000 students are studying at this university.
